Albemarle has been a manufacturing center since the latter part of the 19th Century. The earliest industries in Albemarle well into the 20th century were textile manufacturers. Over the past several decades, the community has seen a transition into a more diversified manufacturing base.
Although textiles and apparel are still an important component of the local economy, other industries both large and small have established very successful operations in Albemarle. Among the largest employers in Albemarle are IAC, Preformed Line Products, Gentry Mills, American Fiber and Finishing, Masterpiece Housing, Conveyor Components Inc. and Nabell, Inc.
The City of Albemarle provides a business friendly environment in which local business leaders are able to have frequent contact with local officials and where local officials have demonstrated their responsiveness to the needs and concerns of the business community
