Firefighter I

Firefighter I.  Performs responsible protective service work in fire suppression and emergency care in the municipal fire department.  Starting salary is $31,994 annually.  Closing date for receipt of applications is March 8, 2019.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Age 18 or older.
2. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. 
3. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid N.C. Driver's License.
4. Must establish residency in Stanly or adjoining county within 90 days of the date of employment.

Special Job Qualification Requirement:
1. The chosen applicant will be offered the job contingent upon passing a substance abuse test.
2. Pass Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) administered by the fire Department.
3. Successfully complete a written exam administered by the fire department.  The exam consists of human relations, mechanical reasoning, reading and math components.
4. Undergo oral interview by members of the fire department.
5. Undergo oral interview by staff officers of the fire department.
6. Undergo background investigation. 
7. The chosen applicant will be offered the job contingent upon passing an NFPA 1582 compliant physical examination, which includes substance abuse testing.
8. Must successfully complete, according to fire department policy, the recruit school chosen by the fire department.  Applicants chosen to attend recruit school will be employed by the City of Albemarle during the recruit school.
