Governor Cooper issued an Executive Order that allowed all utility customers to not make payment on bills from April through July 2020 due to economic impacts from COVID19. Per the Order these balances shall be paid by the end of January 2021 or face disconnection of service. However, the City of Albemarle is sensitive to residents' needs and has once again gone the extra step to provide utility customers additional flexibility in paying these balances accrued from the spring and early summer of last year.
Utilities will not be disconnected if customers 1.) Keep current with their most recent bill, and 2). Pay 25% of any balance that was accumulated during the Executive Order time period in the month of February. If 25% of this past due amount is received this month, the remainder of the balance is not due until April, providing an additional 2 months to pay the balance owed from the spring and summer of 2020.
If you have a COVID-related utility balance, please come to the Albemarle City Hall to make arrangements to receive the additional time to make your payment, or call 704-984-9615. If Customer Service Representatives are busy, please leave a message and your call will be returned.
