ALBEMARLE, NC - City of Albemarle City Manager Michael Ferris announces the hiring of Jason T. Bollhorst as the City’s new Police Chief. Chief Bollhorst will begin his duties for the City of Albemarle on October 4, 2021 and fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Chief David Dulin.

Chief Bollhorst comes to the City of Albemarle from the City of Newport News (VA) Police Department with over 26 years of law enforcement experience. Throughout his 26-year career in law enforcement, he held a variety of assignments while progressing in rank. Chief Bollhorst held supervisory positions for 10 years in Patrol Operations, Tactical Operations (SWAT) and Investigations; narcotics, gangs, and criminal enterprises associated with federal task force operations. His leadership at the rank of Captain includes five years of experience in three of the agency’s six Divisions. Chief Bollhorst spent two years with the Professional Standards Division which housed Training and Internal Affairs, over two years as the Commander of South Precinct in the Patrol Division, and one year with the Special Investigations Division. Chief Bollhorst is passionate about law enforcement, community interaction, and employee wellness.

Chief Bollhorst holds an Associate’s Degree from Thomas Nelson Community College in Police Science and a Bachelor’s in Science Degree from Christopher Newport University in Governmental Administration. He is a graduate from the 66^th Class of the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute and has attended a variety of command level leadership courses. Chief Bollhorst believes the strongest asset a police department or any organization has is its people.

The front line civilian staff, officers, and supervisors are critical in accomplishing our mission. I will continue to promote a positive work environment conducive to internal growth which encourages appropriate levels of coaching and mentoring for all the men and women in the Police Department.”

Chief Bollhorst is happily married for over 29 years to his strongest supporter and best friend, Sherrie Bollhorst. They have been blessed with three daughters, Caitlin, Madison, and Sydney. He is devoted to his family and appreciates their support throughout his career.

I personally look forward to working with Chief Bollhorst and to what he will bring to the city, department, and the public we serve.” Chief Bollhorst’s first day of employment with the city is scheduled for October 4.
