This is a drop-in event, open to all residents. Knowledgeable City staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide guidance in a relaxed, informative environment. Come by any time between 6:30pm - 8:30pm to learn more, share your thoughts, and help define Albemarle’s roadmap for the future.
“We need a plan that helps manage change in a way that benefits all residents. That’s why the City of Albemarle’s Planning and Development Department is asking for our community's help in building our new Comprehensive Land Use Plan,” said Kevin Robinson, City of Albemarle Planning and Development Director. “Think of the comprehensive plan as a roadmap to the future. You can help us navigate where we want to go.”
In addition to the open house, residents are encouraged to complete the Comprehensive Land Use Plan Survey, available now at www.albemarlenc.gov/future. Survey participants who complete the survey by December 31, 2024 will have four chances to win a $100 gift card.
A Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) is a strategic policy document designed to guide the growth and development of a city over the next twenty years. This plan identifies and addresses key aspects of urban growth, including land use, housing, transportation, environmental protection, economic development, and community involvement. By defining clear goals and policies, the CLUP provides a roadmap for creating a city that aligns with the community’s vision.
Community involvement is critical to creating a land use plan that truly reflects the residents’ needs and priorities. Your insights can enhance the quality of the City’s decisions, helping make Albemarle a more livable, resilient, and prosperous city. A strong CLUP, shaped by the community, provides clear direction for Albemarle’s officials and staff as they make decisions that will impact the city’s future.
The Envision Albemarle 2045 plan will be the guiding document for land use and development, aligning physical growth with Albemarle’s social, environmental, and economic goals. By enhancing coordination of services and improving decision-making, the plan will serve as a foundation for a livable and sustainable Albemarle.
Following the open house, additional neighborhood meetings will be held to provide even more ways for residents to participate in shaping the Comprehensive Land Use Plan.
