ALBEMARLE, NC – In recognition of the City of Albemarle’s rich history, the City's historic marker program has expanded with new locations downtown and in Albemarle's Kingville community. The City of Albemarle’s Planning and Development Department led a collaboration with the Stanly County Historical Society and Stanly Avengers Inc. to add markers honoring people and places of historic significance:
Downtown
-Former U.S. Post Office & Police Station – 203 N Second Street
-Fitzgerald Building/Roses 5 & 10 – 151 W Main Street
-Morgan Motor Company Building – 304-310 E Main Street
-Hearne Building – 122-126 N Second Street
-Morrow Brothers & Heath Company Store – 115 W South Street
-The Big Store – 103 N First Street
Kingville
-Kingville Community
-Kingville Park
-William Henry Wall
-Kingville High School/E.E. Waddell Center
-Elks Lodge & Sport's Club
Each historic marker features a brief narrative about the location. Historian Lewis Bramlett and Stanly Avengers Inc.'s Dion Brooks verified the accuracy of the information presented. Markers also include a QR code that visitors can scan with a smartphone to access a web-based story map offering more details about the site and other historic locations in Albemarle.
