City of Albemarle Joins Stanly County and Others for Household Hazard Waste and Electronics Recycling Event

ALBEMARLE, NC – The City of Albemarle, The Stanly County Solid Waste Dept., Republic Services, PowerHouse Recycling and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will be providing services again this year for the annual Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Event.

A household hazardous waste collection event and an electronics-recycling event will be held Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the rear parking lot of the Agri-Civic Center, 26032-B Newt Rd., Albemarle NC.    

Event Rules and Instructions below from Stanly County Solid Waste Disposal. If you have questions, please call 704-986-3698.

Leave all materials in their original containers, place in a cardboard box and transport in trunk or rear area of your vehicle. ALL PATRONS ARE ASKED TO STAY IN THEIR VEHICLE.  This event is for residents of Stanly County.  No Businesses or Churches allowed. 

Materials accepted for hazardous waste recycling/disposal:

Acids/bases, aerosols, automotive products, drain openers, flammables, furniture finishes/strippers, household batteries, household cleaners/polishes, paint and paint products and wood preservatives. We will also be taking household florescent bulbs.

Pesticides:

Nearly all pesticide products will be accepted.  For liquid pesticide containers larger than 5 gal or for unlabeled pesticides, please contact the Cooperative Extension Office for information before bringing to the collection event, Katelyn Stovall 704-986-6104.

Electronics Recycling Collection:

Electronics contain heavy metals such as lead, mercury and cadmium. No matter how state-of-the-art a landfill is, this type of material should not be disposed in this way. You now have the opportunity to recycle a large portion of the electronics waste stream and to protect our environment.

Acceptable Electronics:

Computers, monitors, typewriters, printers, copiers, fax machines, scanners, TVs, VCRs, radios, basically anything with a circuit board.

Materials NOT Accepted for Recycling or Disposal:

Materials will not be accepted from commercial businesses (small or large quantity hazardous waste generators).  Household waste, motor oil over 5 gals, anti-freeze over 5 gals, :liquid substances over 5 gal, and recyclables other than specified will not be accepted at the event, these items are accepted at the Stanly County Convenience Centers on a daily basis. 

NO SMALL APPLIANCES ACCEPTED, such as hairdryers, curling irons, microwaves. 

NO LARGE APPLIANCES/WHITE GOODS WILL BE ACCEPTED, such as washers, dryers, freezers, cooks stoves or refrigerators.  The City of Albemarle Landfill (704-982-3302) and the Stanly County Convenience Center located on Newt Rd. accepts the white goods listed above.

DO NOT BRING items, which are explosive, biologically active or infectious, radioactive or non-hazardous.

Please remember- The City of Albemarle Solid Waste Facility and the Stanly County Convenience Center located on Newt Rd. accepts all the electronics and White Goods listed above.  All Stanly County Convenience Centers are equipped for receipt of used motor oil and three sites are equipped for receipt of anti-freeze.  Along with many recyclables, the City of Albemarle Solid Waste Facility and Recycling Center also accepts water-based/latex paint.  For additional information regarding other recycling and disposal options, hours of operation, and recycling or disposal fees, please contact the corresponding numbers listed below:

You must be a resident of Stanly County and pay a solid waste fee to use convenience centers.
