Albemarle City Manager Todd Clark Announces Retirement Effective in August
ALBEMARLE, NC – Albemarle City Manager Todd Clark has announced his intention to retire in August 2025, following 35 years of dedicated service in local government.
“I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve the City of Albemarle,” said Clark. “I’ve truly enjoyed building relationships with the people of our community, City staff, and our elected officials. After 35 years in local government, I’m now looking forward to spending more time with my wife, Jane, who recently retired from her career as an educator. Albemarle and Stanly County will always hold a special place in our hearts.”
“On behalf of City Council and our citizens, I thank Todd for his leadership in our City,” said Mayor Ronnie Michael. “Todd has done a remarkable job balancing the immense responsibilities of City operations. His professionalism and vision for making local government the best it can be are deeply appreciated. We wish him the very best in his retirement.”
As City Manager, Clark oversees the day-to-day operations of the City, which include the electric system, water and wastewater system, landfill facility, public housing, parks and recreation, police and fire departments, and other traditional municipal services.
Under Clark’s leadership, the City of Albemarle completed the infrastructure installation for the new Albemarle Business Center, began development of a new Comprehensive Land Use Plan Envision Albemarle 2045, and created a new Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Additionally, Clark continued implementation of the City’s award-winning Strategic Plan.
Before coming to Albemarle, Clark served as Town Manager of Beaufort, North Carolina. His experience also includes nearly 15 years as City Manager of Newton, North Carolina, a public power community. He previously held the roles of Town Manager in both Maiden and Catawba, North Carolina.
Clark has been an active member of the North Carolina City & County Management Association and the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). In 2020, ICMA recognized him for 30 years of distinguished service in local government.
