UPDATE: 10/6/25 - Following a notification to his next of kin, the Albemarle Police Department is now able to identify the victim of a fatal crash that occurred Wednesday, October 1, 2025. The individual who was killed in the crash is Nathan Wayne Hollingsworth, age 49, of Albemarle, NC.
Albemarle Police Arrest Driver Following Fatal Crash
ALBEMARLE, NC – On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at approximately 2:11 a.m., officers from the Albemarle Police Department responded to a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of NC Highway 24/27 and Henson Street.
Upon arrival, officers located the pedestrian, who had sustained critical injuries. The individual was transported to Atrium Health Stanly, where they were later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 19-year-old Alston Paul Burr of Albemarle, fled the scene. Burr was later located at his residence and taken into custody.
Burr is charged with Driving While Impaired (DWI) and Felony Hit and Run Resulting in Death.
The Albemarle Police Department continues efforts to notify the victim’s next of kin. Out of respect for the family, the victim’s identity will not be released until notification has been made.
