Albemarle Residents Invited to Shape City’s Future at Open House

ALBEMARLE, NC – The City of Albemarle invites residents to attend an upcoming open house to learn more about Envision Albemarle 2045, the City’s updated Comprehensive Land Use Plan. The meeting will show how resident voices have helped shape the draft plan so far.

Two open house sessions will be held on Thursday, October 23 in the City Hall Council Chambers:

Session 1: 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Session 2: 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Residents only need to attend one session, as both will cover the same material.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming our residents and showing how their input has been incorporated into the City’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan,” said Brittani McClendon, City of Albemarle Interim Planning Director. “This plan wouldn’t be complete without their voices. It takes everyone sharing their ideas to help shape the future of our City.”

Over the past several months City staff and a volunteer steering committee have gathered community input, with more than 700 Albemarle residents have participated in surveys, neighborhood meetings, and interactive planning exercises to share their ideas and concerns. Their input has been instrumental in shaping the draft of Envision Albemarle 2045, which is now available for public review at www.albemarlenc.gov/future . The plan is still in draft form and has not yet been approved by City Council.

The open house sessions will provide a hands-on opportunity for residents to explore the draft plan and offer feedback on key topics such as residential and business growth, transportation and connectivity, city services, and environmental sustainability.

The City of Albemarle's Comprehensive Land Use Plan, known as Envision Albemarle 2045 is a 20-year strategic document adopted by local officials to guide the long-term development and use of land within the City. The Envision Albemarle 2045 plan will shape the City's growth by aligning physical development

with the community’s goals. By coordinating services and improving decision-making, the plan will serve as a foundation for Albemarle's future.

A Comprehensive Land Use Plan typically includes key elements such as land use, transportation, housing, public facilities, environmental protection, economic development, and community involvement. To learn more and read the draft plan, visit: www.albemarlenc.gov/future
