Albemarle Police Make Arrest in Shooting

ALBEMARLE, NC – On February 9, 2026, at approximately 10:26 p.m., officers from the Albemarle Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 700 block of Leonard Avenue.

Upon arrival, police located a juvenile with a gunshot wound. The juvenile was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

William Abiormi Browne, age 19, of Stanly County has been arrested by the Albemarle Police Department with assistance from the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office. Browne is charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder. He is being held without bond.

Preliminary investigation indicates the victim and suspect were known to each other and that this was not a random act.
