Albemarle Police Department Welcomes New Officers and Announces Promotions
ALBEMARLE, NC – On February 17, 2026, the Albemarle Police Department held its Swearing-In and Promotion Ceremony, an event marking the successful addition of five new officers and the promotion of several esteemed members within the department, recognized for their outstanding service and leadership.
In attendance were elected officials, community leaders, and family of the officers. Highlights included the presentation of colors by the APD Honor Guard, a rendition of the National Anthem by Miss Miley Bargesser, and an invocation delivered by Police Chaplain Brian Johnson. The Honorable Judge T. Thai Vang administered the Oath of Office to the department’s newly appointed officers.
Newly Sworn Officers:
· Officer James Alexson – Former U.S. Marine Corps; began law enforcement career in Union County.
· Officer Tanner Lang – Raised in Port Orange, Florida; graduated from BLET in December 2025.
· Officer Christopher Linker – From Concord, NC; graduated from BLET in December 2025.
· Officer Marcus Patrick – From White Plains, NY; graduated from BLET in December 2025.
· Officer Trenton Scott – Montgomery County native; graduated from BLET in December 2025.
Promotions:
· Douglas Austin – Promoted to Sergeant; over 20 years of law enforcement and military service.
· Douglas Edwards – Promoted to Sergeant; APD member since 2016 with diverse experience.
· Cody Bunce – Promoted to Sergeant; APD member since 2017, Field Training Officer since 2020.
· Amy Hartsell – Promoted to Sergeant; APD member since 2019, certified General Instructor.
· Phillip Huneycutt – Promoted to Lieutenant; APD member since 2016, SWAT and Training Division leader.
· David Salyers – Promoted to Lieutenant; extensive investigative and leadership experience.
· Brian Lear – Promoted to Lieutenant; nearly 25 years with APD, specialized in collision reconstruction and investigations.
· Brandon Tipton – Promoted to Lieutenant; 11 years of service, Special Olympics Coordinator.
Albemarle Police Chief Ryan Manley addressed the honorees, emphasizing the department’s commitment to integrity, professionalism, and community partnership. “Tonight, we celebrate not only achievement but the continued promise to serve Albemarle with honor and dedication. To our officers and their families, thank you for your sacrifice and service,” said Ryan Manley, Albemarle Police Chief.
