Albemarle Police Department Investigating Homicide
ALBEMARLE, NC – On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at approximately 7:14 p.m., officers with the Albemarle Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the area Heath Street and Elizabeth Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers located an adult female inside a vehicle on Elizabeth Avenue suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers immediately administered medical aid and secured the scene. The victim was subsequently transported by AirMed to a medical facility. She succumbed to her injuries after arrival. The identity of the victim is being withheld until the next of kin can be notified.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the individuals involved were known to each other and this was not a random act. There is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.
The Albemarle Police Department Criminal Investigations Division and the North Carolina State of Bureau Investigation are working to gather information. No additional information is available at this time.
