Fee for Utility Bill Payments Using Credit and Debit Cards

Post Date:06/29/2026 1:49 PM

Beginning July 1, 2026, the City of Albemarle Public Utilities Division will begin passing along the 3.75% card processing fee charged by our payment vendor for credit and debit card transactions. This change allows the City to ensure only those who choose to pay by credit or debit card cover the cost of the transaction.

PLEASE NOTE: Customers who have AutoPay setup with a credit or debit card will be charged the processing fee. To avoid the fee, customers will need to update their account to bank draft. Customers who use bank draft (AutoPay from a checking or savings account) are not impacted and will continue to pay with no additional fees.

You can continue paying your utility bill with no added fees by choosing one of the following options:

• Update AutoPay to bank draft – The easiest, fee‑free payment method. Visit www.albemarlenc.gov/paybill to make the change.

• Pay by check – Mail your payment to P.O. Box 160, Albemarle, NC 28002.

• Pay with cash – Accepted at our customer service office at City Hall 144 N. 2nd Street, Albemarle, NC 28001.

Please note: If your AutoPay is currently set up using a credit or debit card, the 3.75% processing fee will apply unless you update your payment method to bank draft.

If you have questions or need help updating your AutoPay method, please contact us at 704‑984‑9615 or visit www.albemarlenc.gov/paybill.
