Gerald R. “Ronnie” Michael was elected as City Council Member representing District 3 in 2011. In 2013, he was elected Mayor of the City of Albemarle.

Before serving in government, he served the citizens for nearly 30 years in the Albemarle Police Department, the final 11 years as Chief of Police, retiring 2011.

He was born and raised in Albemarle. Ronnie graduated from North Stanly High School and received an Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Stanly Community College. He also attended Pfeiffer College and the North Carolina Justice Academy for specialized instruction.

Ronnie is married to the former Sarah Cranford. They have two daughters and three grandchildren. Ronnie and Sarah are members of First Presbyterian Church in Albemarle having served as Deacon and Elder. “Family, Church and Community are the most important things in life. We must first honor these if we want to be a positive leader for our city and the citizens we represent.”

Over the years, Ronnie has been involved in many different Boards and Committees, giving him vast insight into the view and needs of Albemarle citizens. Says the mayor, “I have always been willing to listen to others and make decisions after I have the needed information. In this position I am asking for the thoughts and input of others. The City Council feels the same as I do. Please contact any Councilmember or myself and provide your thoughts.”
