Any activity that affects the land—such as new construction, grading, site clearing, drainage improvements, and demolitions—must be permitted and/or protected against environmental impacts.

• If your land-disturbing activity exceeds an acre, you must contact the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality

• For land disturbing-activities under an acre, please refer to the Erosion Control Best Management Practices and Requirements to ensure that there is no erosion or raw sediment runoff onto neighboring properties, drainage areas, and public right of ways
