Did You Receive a Solid Waste Service Violation Notice? Here’s What You Need to Know.

Solid Waste Service Door Tags

You may have recently received a notice of violation from the City of Albemarle's Public Works Department related to solid waste services.

For years, door tags have been a common way to educate residents about solid waste regulations. You may receive a door tag for a variety of reasons, including:
  • Not bringing your garbage/recycling cart in on time (carts should be REMOVED from the curb by 7pm on the day of collection).
  • Exceeding the four-cubic-yard limit for waste collection.
  • Placing garbage or recycling carts, as well as yard waste piles, too close (less than three feet) to fences, mailboxes, utility poles, fire hydrants, vehicles, or other objects.
If City staff observes a violation at the curb, they will leave a door hanger notifying you of the issue. If violations continue after three warnings, enforcement measures may follow, including fines or removal of your garbage/recycling cart.
