Payments for load disposal can be made using Visa, MasterCard, and Discover credit or debit card at our scalehouse weigh station.

When paying with a credit or debit card please note the card must be in your name. You must show your driver’s license as identification.

Commercial account holders choosing to pay their account by credit card can do so in person at our City Hall located at 144 North Second St, Albemarle NC Monday through Friday from 8:30 – 5:00.

In addition to credit and debit cards, cash and verified personal or company checks are accepted as payment.

LANDFILL BAN REQUIRES CITY RESIDENTS TO RECYCLE

Effective July 1, 2011, City of Albemarle residents can no longer place old televisions and computers at curbside for collection. Small electronic items should not be put in curbside containers.

A new State law prohibits the disposal of the following items into North Carolina landfills:

Televisions, Computers (Desktops, monitors and laptops), Computer Keyboards and Mice, Printers, scanners and fax machines.

The law was approved in July 2010 and scheduled to take effect July 1, 2011. As outlined in the law, the General Assembly “recognizes that discarded televisions and computer equipment are rapidly growing and complex waste streams.”

The ban addresses the potential for toxic materials, such as cadmium, mercury and lead found in some electronics to enter the waste stream.

Ellen Lorscheider, N.C. Division of Waste Management spokeswoman, said the new law’s goal is to reduce landfills’ risk of possible contamination from metals used to make electronic equipment. An added benefit of the new law is the increase in valuable parts from electronic equipment that will be available for reuse.

According to the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, state residents average tossing five to six pounds of electronic equipment per capita each year. Most of these items contain materials that have value and can be reused.

Residents can recycle their televisions and computers at the City of Albemarle Landfill. All items are subject to a small disposal fee. For more information, call 704-982-3302.

Tipping (dumping) in the landfill is ONLY allowed (Monday-Friday).

*The First Saturday of each month Household trash, Solid Waste and Construction type materials must be unloaded by hand at the Recycle Center boxes located next to the Scale house. C&D and MSW tipping/dumping areas are closed on Saturdays.

Lithium-Ion Batteries

Latex Paint: (clean up with warm soapy water)

No lead paint or oil-based paints, stains, or varnishes will be accepted. Lead and oil-based paints, stains, and varnishes may only be disposed of at the annual household hazardous waste recycling event each spring.


Please follow these simple rules:

*    ONLY LATEX PAINT in five-gallon containers or less will be accepted.
*    Paint CANNOT be left without attendant’s approval.
*    Paint must be useable. (not dried up)
*    NO other materials can be mixed with paint.
