The Wall of Fame Committee works to recognize current or former residents of Albemarle who have achieved national, regional, or local recognition and have made substantial civic contributions to the Albemarle community over a significant period, through their work in the community, lifetime, achievements and volunteer services.
The Wall of Committee shall consist of committee members chosen by members of Albemarle City Council. Each City Council member will nominate a committee member from their respective district plus one at-large member. Each committee member must be approved by Albemarle City Council and must serve a three-year term.
Roles & Duties of Advisory Board
-Review qualifications for each nominee to determine eligibility of Wall of Fame recognition
-Determine when an existing honoree may need to be removed from the Wall of Fame
-Coordinate Wall of Fame induction ceremony
-Work with the City Clerk to develop the budget and procure services and products needed for the Wall of Fame and induction ceremony
-Update Wall of Fame policy as needed and submit it to City Council for approval
Membership Qualifications
Members of the Wall of Fame Advisory Board must be a resident of Albemarle and have resided in Albemarle for at least one year in order to be eligible for nomination by a City of Albemarle City Council member.
Residency in Albemarle will be established by proof of address within Albemarle City limits (driver's license, utility bill, etc.). Committee members will be considered City of Albemarle volunteers and so will abide by City of Albemarle policies regarding confidentiality of information; City values of honesty, teamwork, integrity, and humility/respect; and information sent/received electronically.
Membership Terms
Each committee member must be approved by Albemarle City Council and must serve a three-year term.
Attendance/Ability to Volunteer
A member who misses 2 meetings in a row without any contact with the City Clerk about about his/her availability will be considered a non-participating volunteer. For cases of non-participation, the City Clerk will consult with City leadership and City Council to discuss whether to re-instate the member or suggest member replacement.
