The City of Albemarle is investing in the future through a variety of key projects that align with goals in the City's Strategic Plan. These efforts include preserving and maintaining city streets, developing a Parks and Recreation Master Plan to guide future improvements, and shaping land use with the Envision Albemarle 2045 Comprehensive Land Use Plan.

Street Maintenance and Preservation

For the past two fiscal years, the City of Albemarle has budgeted record funding for street maintenance and preservation. The focus on street infrastructure is a response to what residents identified as the number one area for improvement in the community survey. To support this priority, the FY 2025/2026 Budget includes a total of 1.3 million dollars for street preservation.

In 2021, Public Works Staff, commissioned a civil engineering company to review the conditions of City streets and develop plans for preservation and maintenance.

Envision Albemarle 2045

The City of Albemarle is engaging in a coordinated and inclusive process to develop its comprehensive land use plan. This plan will capture the vision, values, and goals for the City of Albemarle’s future. Comprehensive land use plans rely heavily on community input to identify these goals and create strategies for achieving the City’s vision.

A Comprehensive Land Use Plan is a twenty-year strategic policy document adopted by local officials to guide the long-term development and use of land within a City. It typically includes a vision for the community’s future, outlining goals, and identifying policies to manage growth. Parks and Recreation Master Plan

In June 2025, Albemarle City Council adopted a new Parks and Recreation Masterplan. This Ten-Year Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan is intended to help the City understand the current state of the recreation system and use public input to craft a vision for the future. This plan provides the framework for guiding the City’s Council and staff.
